A Commitment to Professionalism

The Association has developed and actively supports a major policy statement entitled "Professional Standards for Administrators in Higher Education" This document has been widely accepted and serves as a model for many institutional statements. Each member receives a personal copy.

Professional Development Activities

AAUA sponsors numerous professional development activities, examining areas of current interest to administrators in various locations around the country.

An Annual Conference for Administrators

AAUA sponsors a yearly National Assembly in June. The Assembly includes a presentation of scholarly papers, panel discussions with distinguished speakers, an update on legal issues, and ample opportunity to meet colleagues. Assembly locations have included San Diego, California; Cincinnati, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; Denver, Colorado; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Washington, D.C., and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Association Newsletter

Communiqué, a quarterly newsletter for members, features Association news as well as timely articles featuring current issues facing higher education administrators.

Professional Liability Insurance

AAUA is a member of the Trust for Insuring Educators (TIE), a national consortium representing many thousands of educators. AAUA offers its members a wide range of plans for building personal and family security at some of the most competitive group rates available. Most notable are the low-cost professional liability policies, which offer comprehensive coverage and a range of benefits for the academic, administrative, and even private consulting activities of insured members.

Professional Committees

AAUA members serve with their colleagues on a variety of Association committees and task forces, including professional standards and mediation service,international higher education, diversity, and administrator development.

The AAUA Foundation sponsors the following awards: The Eileen Tosney Award, which recognizes administrative excellence in higher education; the AAUA Distinguished Service Award; the John L. Blackburn Award for Exemplary Administrative Leadership; the Exemplary Models Award; and the Nikolai Khaladjan International Award.

Annual International Conference

AAUA co-sponsors an annual international conference in locations such as England, Italy, Austria, Portugal, and Spain. The international higher education committee works actively to address issues of global concern to administrators at all levels of post-secondary education.

AAUA members receive a discount in registration fees for all AAUA activities and opportunities to develop regional chapters will bring Association programs closer to the members.
