AAUA Launches New Mentoring Community Program
The Professional Development Committee launched a new mentor program at this year’s annual conference. Vice Chair Dr. Lynn Burks noted the AAUA’s Professional Development Committee is launching a year-long “Mentoring Community” program aimed at “Creating powerful peer-to-peer relationships to enhance the skills and knowledge of current and aspiring administrators regarding their respective positions/titles.” Burks notes by focusing on mentoring, the program aims to address the critical need for succession planning for all levels of leadership in higher education and will help prepare the next generation of leaders, ensuring a smooth transition of knowledge and skills within academic institutions.
For members who were not able to attend the session and have an interest in joining the program, please send an email to lynn.burks@aaua.org by January 10th, with your desired community. Communities will be capped at 25, and filled on a first come, first serve basis. Mentoring Community topics include;
- Topic 1 – Cultivating tomorrow’s leadership competencies
- Topic 2 – Preparing for Your Next (carousel of topics including influencing without authority, fostering an inclusive and healthy workplace, and supporting today’s new generation of learners)
- Topic 3 – Visionary academic leadership
