AAUA Seeks Award Nominations, Extends Deadline
The American Association of University Administrators has extended its deadline for 2024 award nominations to February 15, 2024. The Association is especially interested in receiving nominations for its named awards to honor individuals in specific categories. Anyone at public, private, two-year, four-year, or specialized institutions is eligible to apply. Membership in AAUA is not required. A brief description of awards:
The John Blackburn Award – This award recognizes an activity that has successfully taken on a “common problem in higher education.” The award can go to an individual, a team, or the program activity itself. The source of the issue may have been pressure from regulators, governing boards, funding sources, the general public, or the institution’s own resource or mission concerns.
The Nikolai Khaladjan International Award – This award honors an individual or activity that has advanced the international aspects of higher education, especially improved access to international education and advanced methods of instruction.
The John and Christine Cavanaugh Award for Effective Leadership in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – This honors an individual who is distinguished for leadership in DEI in any area such as staff development, program activity, student assistance, and public relations for DEI concerns.
The Dan King Trustee Leadership Award – This honors a person who has given exemplary service to the trustees, governing board, or other agency responsible for governance of an institution or a system. Such categories as advising the institutional executives, leadership of board committees, fundraising, public relations, and financial or strategic planning are all possible categories.
The Joel Trachtenberg Award for Thought Leadership – This award recognizes a person whose writing, speaking, or visibility are vital in leading higher education to fulfill its responsibilities to its many constituencies.

AAUA is planning a conference on October 14-16, 2024 in Indianapolis. Honorees will be invited to attend at a reduced conference rate. Those who cannot attend will have their award plaques mailed to them after the conference.
